#219 Put Your Breakfast Where Your Mouth Is Put Your Breakfast Where Your Mouth Is So, here's the new comic. Jerry is STILL hungry after all the food he had for breakfast. Something pretty serious seems to be going on, so Spacebot may be right in worrying. And they still keep saying the same things they've been talking about for a few strips. This has to stop, and it will, I promise. The next comic, however, will be a guest strip by Leon.

Good night.
Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#218 Motel California, Pt. 2 Motel California, Pt. 2 Once again, Jerry and Spacebot spend the night at the Cozy Sleep Motel. The receptionist almost can't believe her eyes: Jerry was born in 1988, which means that by his driving license, he's 79 years old.

While drawing this one, we listened to the album "A Night At The Opera" by Queen. It's the one that contains the famous "Bohemian Rhapsody," and one could argue that it's among their most progressive records. It also features other well-known tracks like "You're My Best Friend" and less famous tracks such as "The Prophet's Song." Both of them are pretty awesome, though. ANATO ends with Queen's own rendition of "God Save The Queen," a moment that feels both epic and somewhat melancholic at the same time. With so many legendary classics to offer, you always keep forgetting how great Queen's lesser known songs were.
Fallout, Jerry; Receptionist at the "Cozy Sleep Motel" in 2067; Spacebot 4000
#217 Wait For Sleep (Motel California) Wait For Sleep (Motel California) The Cozy Sleep Motel was first featured in EBC #73. It looks like it hasn't changed too much in the future.

After leaving the sky bar, Jerry and Spacebot decide to find a place to sleep. As they haven't met a Chandler-like person, they'll have to settle for a cheap motel. But how? They don't have any money! We'll see in the next strip how that goes.

Tonight, we listened to Extreme's fifth studio album, "Saudades de Rock" from 2008. It was their first release after 1995's "Waiting For The Punchline" because they disbanded shortly after that and only got back together almost 13 years later. We were pretty excited to learn that they did, and saw their only show in Germany, right here in Cologne. "Saudades de Rock" offers a much greater musical variety than its predecessor. Many different styles are approached: from the opening track "Star" which reminds you of stadium rock to the alternative rock anthem "Ghost" to "Take Us Alive" which is influenced by country music. There are also hidden gems on the record, for example the almost punk-ish "Flower Man," the very funky "Slide," or the fast-paced "Learn To Love." Give it a listen if you get the chance.
Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#216 Looking For Food In All The Wrong Places Looking For Food In All The Wrong Places Jerry's hunger seems to get worse and worse. As they don't have any Paychips yet, they have to settle for this place that offers two free drinks and an unlimited supply of free peanuts. The downside? This absolutely crazy place is hovering above the city, and when you sit on a barstool like Jerry and Spacebot, there's only thin air between you and the ground, some 200ft. below.

While drawing this one, we listened to the album "AM" by the Arctic Monkeys. I'd consider it one of the best indie rock albums because of its anthemic melodies and thought-provoking lyrics.
Bartender at the Spacebar; Fallout, Jerry; Female Patron at the Spacebar; Male Patron at the Spacebar; Spacebot 4000
#215 What If Metrotopia Had A Zombie Apocalypse What If Metrotopia Had A Zombie Apocalypse It's just as horrible as these things usually get. And the only one who might help find a cure has been infected as well, holding Spacebot's severed head.

This one was actually drawn a few weeks ago and scheduled as the next "What If" strip.
Boldface, Terry; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Pimple Faced Teen; Spacebot 4000
#209 Games Without Frontiers Games Without Frontiers This kind of wraps up the Virtual Gaming experience for Jerry and Spacebot -- these guys and girls are absolutely crazy, or are they? And is that Brain Slug that tries to eat Jerry's head really dangerous, or just a hologram? Guess we'll never find out. Looks like they lost their AGP before they won any.

Next week, we'll see more places of future Metrotopia. Next up is a guest strip, though.

Tonight, we listened to the album "Day & Age" by The Killers. They combine several influences, e.g. Coldplay, U2, the Red Hot Chili Peppers(!), and Radiohead. Interesting record.
Astronaut at the VG Center; Fairy at the VG Center; Fallout, Jerry; Knight at the VG Center; Red Robot at the VG Center; Spacebot 4000; Wizard at the VG Center
#208 The Games We Didn't Play The Games We Didn't Play So they're considering Metroid, a game that has been around for 81 years in the year 2067. And Jerry is absolutely excited and relieved about it.

While drawing this one, we listened to Rush's fantastic record "Moving Pictures." It contains classics like "Tom Sawyer," "YYZ," and "Red Barchetta."
Astronaut at the VG Center; Fallout, Jerry; Hooded Figure at the VG Center; Red Robot at the VG Center; Soldier at the VG Center; Spacebot 4000; Warrior Princess at the VG Center; Wizard at the VG Center
#207 This Day We Explain! This Day We Explain! I wonder whether all of the VG players themselves know what they're talking about. The rulebook at least looks pretty impressive. Well, at least they still have printed books in 2067. All hope is not lost!

Last night, we joined DeviantArt and uploaded all existing EBC strips there. If you like, pay a visit to our DeviantArt page. I think it's a great platform for professional artists and newcomers alike. If you plan on creating a webcomic of your own, I would recommend it.

While creating tonight's comic, we listened to the album "Pet Sounds" on Spotify, a true classic by The Beach Boys that has aged exceptionally well. Give it a listen if you haven't yet, it's worth it.

So, this wraps up EBC for 2015. We wish everyone a successful New Year, and many great comics should be coming your way from us, if all goes well.
Fairy at the VG Center; Fallout, Jerry; Knight at the VG Center; Spacebot 4000; Wizard at the VG Center
#206 It's All Geek To Me It's All Geek To Me So, Jerry and Spacebot have arrived at the Virtual Gaming Center. Much like RPG players in our time, the VG players seem to use a jargon that outsiders can't easily understand. In our next comic, we'll try and find out more about it. Astronaut at the VG Center; Fairy at the VG Center; Fallout, Jerry; Hooded Figure at the VG Center; Knight at the VG Center; Red Robot at the VG Center; Soldier at the VG Center; Spacebot 4000; Warrior Princess at the VG Center; Wizard at the VG Center
#204 Hunger Or Games Hunger Or Games Let's find out what Virtual Gaming is all about -- in EBC #206, because there will be a What If comic before that one. Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#201 The Cast Awakens The Cast Awakens The Force is strong in them!

In anticipation of the brand new Star Wars movie, "The Force Awakens," we present a few regular EBC cast members as Jedi Knights and Spacebot as a rogue fighter with a blaster (think Han Solo made of steel).

Sorry that this strip is a few days late; we were quite busy. We will upload four more comics until Sunday though. Christmas and New Year week may contain a few specials.
Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Pimple Faced Teen; Spacebot 4000
#200 Happy Anniversary With 199 Comics! Happy Anniversary With 199 Comics! Here it is! One of the largest EBC strips to date. Photoshop automation and some Python scripting helped making the giant wall of comics (EBC #1 through #199), while our heroes were added by traditional digital drawing.

Please be patient, it may take a while to load.

200 strips are done, so let's raise our glasses for the next 200.

See you tomorrow!
Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#187 Here They Go Again On Their Own Here They Go Again On Their Own Oh look, we haven't really seen Terry in a while. And he even says something for a change, even if it's only one word.

Also, Jerry is absolutely excited, impatient, and distractible -- but after all, they found their favorite Video Game Store which changed its name again.
Boldface, Terry; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#186 Here We Are Now, Entertain Us! Here We Are Now, Entertain Us! So the future is extremely colorful, as Jerry remarks. And a single company seems to hold a monopoly in many business areas: the Nevermind Corporation. I wonder if we're going to find out more about them... Fallout, Jerry; Lady With Colorful Hair; Spacebot 4000
#185 The Future Is A Mysterious Place The Future Is A Mysterious Place And so, without any further ado, our friends are off to the future. The year 2067, to be more exact.

Also, happy anniversary to Bill Watterson and his immortal comic strip, Calvin and Hobbes, that was launched thirty years ago today. If you look closely, you can find a crude rendition of the pair somewhere in this comic.
80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#183 Out of Paris... at last Out of Paris... at last So this wraps up another part of the current story arc. One more place, or better time, to go to: the future! Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#182 American Politeness American Politeness After the French Politeness, we can now witness an example of its American counterpart. And this wraps up the little Paris adventure. Jerry's friends are wondering, though, why nothing happened to him. 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#181 Green Hell Green Hell Poor Jerry! First he gets seriously hurt by a gladiator, then some psychopathic chef wants to poison him, and finally, all his friends are talking to him simultaneously. 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Boldface, Terry; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; French Waiter; Spacebot 4000
#179 Hail To The Chef! Hail To The Chef! Hm, the definition of "souvenir" may be different for each of the two. Fallout, Jerry; French Waiter; Jacques, the French Chef
#178 French Politeness French Politeness Wow, Jerry has really managed to get a polite French waiter really angry. Let's see in the next strip (erm, I don't dare to write 'tomorrow') why he's heading to the kitchen... Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; French Waiter; Spacebot 4000
#177 Pardon My... "French" Pardon My... "French" This must have been the longest break I ever took from making EBC since I started it back in May 2011, and I'm really sorry. I was sick, tired, and had too much other things to do. This strip was literally drawn one panel a week.

Now that the comic is finally back, I'd like it to stay that way. Wish me luck.
Fallout, Jerry; French Waiter; Spacebot 4000
#176 Family Business Family Business Yeah, EBC is finally back. I was kind of sick the last two weeks and often fell asleep almost right after work. 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#174 Spécialités du Jour Spécialités du Jour Oh no, did Jerry say it again?!

I'll be back tonight with another What If strip.
Fallout, Jerry; French Waiter; Spacebot 4000
#173 Haute Cuisine II Haute Cuisine II Here they are, at a small bistro Dr. Mysterious visited 15 years ago with his wife. Will the experience still be the same? Let's find out in the next few strips. Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; French Waiter; Spacebot 4000
#171 Haute Cuisine Haute Cuisine Back in the present, they're going to Paris to enjoy a great meal. I wonder how this will turn out. 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#169 Healing Factor Accelerator Healing Factor Accelerator The Healing Factor Accelerator is anothr of Dr. Mysterious's great inventions. It increases the natural human healing factor by 1000% and would even make Wolverine jealous.

There will be one more comic tonight, the last one for this year.
Boldface, Terry; Caesar, Gaius Julius; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#168 Arrivederci, Roma! Arrivederci, Roma! Looks like they're saved now. But what about Jerry and his injury? Let's see later today; this was supposed to be yesterday's strip, and I'll make another one during the day. Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#167 Last-Minute Rescue Again! Last-Minute Rescue Again! ...and that's how the Colosseum got damaged in the first place. See you tomorrow! 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#166 Fight 'Em 'Til You Can't Fight 'Em 'Til You Can't Oh dear! Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#165 What If Jerry And Spacebot Were Toys What If Jerry And Spacebot Were Toys A famous scene from Pixar's "Toy Story," re-enacted by Jerry Fallout and Spacebot 4000 as a classic Cowboy Action Figure and a Toy Robot.

See you guys on Monday!
Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#164 Back To The Roots (X-Mas) Back To The Roots (X-Mas) Jerry and Spacebot are singing, like way back in their first appearance in EBC #6. Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays to all of our readers.

I know, I know, I promised new comics ages ago. But the last two weeks were just downright crazy, with working hours until 10 or 11 pm (we had to finish a project). Sorry for that. Tomorrow, we'll have the What If (promised long ago), and on Monday, we'll finally conclude the Ancient Rome story arc. After that, new adventures are waiting for our friends.
Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#163 Would Upgrading To The Full Version Help? (The Big Fight, Part II) Would Upgrading To The Full Version Help? (The Big Fight, Part II) Poor Jerry... he can't read a several-hundred-page ebook now to learn how to fight because the real gladiators will defeat him in less that a thousandth of the time necessary. So he starts up his lightsaber app and hopes for the best. He couldn't upgrade to the full version, of course, because the App Store is more than two thousand years away. And it wouldn't help anyway, because the full version only offers more lightsaber colors and two-handed lightsabers.

We had a lot of fun last Sunday: There was a Christmas Comics event at a local comic book store. I was even asked to dress up as Santa (and did so), and gave away some EBC Christmas Cards. You'll be able to see them in the Other Stuff section in a few minutes, and even download them as PDFs.

The next strip will be up on Thursday because tomorrow we'll see a live show by J.B.O., a German Comedy Metal Band I already recommended back in EBC #125. There'll also be another "What If" strip on Friday, and I'll try to keep the schedule next week.
Fallout, Jerry
#161 The Big Fight, Part I The Big Fight, Part I They finally arrived at the arena, and they have to fight. While Spacebot is doing extremely well, just as expected, Jerry has some difficulties. Will he have a better idea? And how is Monty doing? Let's find out tomorrow, in Part II of The Big Fight! Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#160 Be It Guest Strip Or Not Be It Guest Strip Or Not Welcome to the largest EBC strip ever! It's a day later than announced because it took some time to finish it.

NOTE: The image is too large to be displayed on the iPhone (and maybe other devices), so here's a mobile version. Use your browser's Back Button to return to the site. In the long run, I'll add a mobile site, but for now, this workaround will have to do. [UPDATE: There's an optional feature now for a comic to consist of more than one image. I used it here, and this should fix the problem for now.]

I asked my son to do a guest strip, but he didn't have an idea. So we asked ourselves what kinds of guest strips our friends from Metrotopia would create, and here are some of the results. Leon created all the guest strips, while I drew the background story.

First in line is Jerry Fallout who shows us a fine day he spent at the Metrotopia Zoo with his best friend, Spacebot 4000. As it seems, he's not that into orthography.

Next up is Jimmy Nesbitt a.k.a. Pimple Faced Teen with a classic hero story featuring... himself. Back in EBC #95, his name was given as "Nigel Nesbitt." Well, his full name is James Nigel Nesbitt, jr., and while he prefers to be called Jimmy in the Standard EBC universe, he goes by Nigel in the Alternate or "What If" universe. Fun fact: Once P.F.T. has mucles, he doesn't have pimples any more.

The third strip is by our hero Hype... ehm, Clyde Barker. He wants to distract his fellow Metrotopians from Hyperman's true identity. But must the glovemaker really be the one they're looking for if his fingerprints are found on the gloves he made?

Fat Zap buys a pencil and other equipment at the local toy store, and then he depicts himself as a racing dog who wins the race and gets a large bone. Well done, Fat Zap!

The last one is by the Weather Guys who introduce their latest member, Plane. They actually use Plane's condensation trails to draw their own, very Shakespearean, guest strip.

Some day, we might actually do a real Guest Strip Contest -- keep your eyes open.
Barker, Clyde; Cloud #1; Cloud #2; Cloud #3; Fallout, Jerry; Fat Zap; Lightning; Pimple Faced Teen; Sun
#159 Not Like Your Grandpa's Thanksgiving Not Like Your Grandpa's Thanksgiving Woohoo, EBC is back as my Apache book is done! Today is Thanksgiving, so here's another special out-of-continuity strip. And, by the way, happy Thanksgiving to our American readers!

Tomorrow, we'll have a guest strip, and on Monday, you'll see Jerry, 1985's Monty, and Spacebot fighting for their lives at the Colosseum.
Fallout, Gilbert; Fallout, Jerry; Fallout, Monty; Fallout, Mrs.; Pimple Faced Teen; Spacebot 4000
#158 Lex Murphyi Strikes Again Lex Murphyi Strikes Again Oh no, the Appearance Generator (introduced way back in EBC #103) failed at the wrong moment. And Jerry, Monty, and Spacebot are in the Colosseum right now!

Poor Julius Maximus, now he really learns how he "knows that he doesn't know anything" (see EBC #133 for details on this piece of Socratic Philosophy).
Boldface, Terry; Dr. Mysterious; Julius Maximus
#157 It's A Long Way To The Top It's A Long Way To The Top ... or a short one if you have someone who declares you a star. Spacebot seems to be a creative guy; he thought out the stage name "Metallus" and latinized his friends' names. 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Claudia; Fallout, Jerry; Roman Prison Guard; Spacebot 4000
#156 Let The Games Begin! Let The Games Begin! Now it's just a matter of an hour or so until the big fight starts. Claudia and her father may wish them luck! 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Claudia; Fallout, Jerry; Roman Farmer; Roman Prison Guard; Spacebot 4000
#155 What If Media Companies Treated Theaters Like YouTube What If Media Companies Treated Theaters Like YouTube This is kind of a sequel to EBC #125. The absurdity of media companies' customer-unfriendly behavior knows no limits.

As the Halloween specials are over, I reverted the site's theme back to normal. Next up is a Christmas theme that will be used at some point next month.

See you tomorrow with a new story from Ancient Rome!
Barker, Clyde; Fallout, Jerry; Pimple Faced Teen; Spacebot 4000
#151 Halloween Special, Part 2/5 -- P.F.T. in: Some Like It Deep-Fried Halloween Special, Part 2/5 -- P.F.T. in: Some Like It Deep-Fried Part 2 of our five-part Halloween special. Featuring Pimple Faced Teen and a parody of Edgar Allan Poe's classic horror poem "The Raven." Fallout, Jerry; Pimple Faced Teen; Spacebot 4000
#150 Halloween Special, Part 1/5 Halloween Special, Part 1/5 This is part 1 of a five-part Halloween special, published during the week. Then on Saturday, I'll do the What If #155 to be back on schedule. Fallout, Jerry; Fat Zap; Spacebot 4000
#148 Be A Fair Sportsman Be A Fair Sportsman Spacebot's outer shell is not adamantium (which doesn't exist in the EBC universe for copyright reasons), but still harder than any Roman weaponry! 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Fallout, Jerry; Roman Prison Guard; Spacebot 4000
#147 How To Wake Up Without Coffee How To Wake Up Without Coffee I think it's difficult. Coffee would be one of the most important things to take on a time travel. 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Fallout, Jerry; Roman Prison Guard; Spacebot 4000
#146 New Super Mario Inception New Super Mario Inception At least this was just a dream. But what they're facing may be harder than changing your gender.

BTW: When I start watching a movie or playing a video game in a dream, it often happens to me that I find myself within it the next instant. But I think that's normal.
80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#145 What If Jerry And Spacebot Were At Home In Metrotopia Right Now? (well, I think they are, actually) What If Jerry And Spacebot Were At Home In Metrotopia Right Now? (well, I think they are, actually) The time travel adventure started in June, and for them, not many days have passed since then. And of course, they'll make sure to come home a few minutes after they left so that nobody will notice their absence.

This comic is in solidarity to people around the world who are fed up with brutal capitalism, with the rich getting richer and richer while the poor and the middle class get poorer and poorer. The #occupywallstreet movement started it all, inspired by earlier protests in North Africa, Spain, Israel and other places: people worldwide are beginning to be sick of "saving" banks and billionnaires while having to take 2-3 jobs to get along (if they even get a job in the first place). From New York, the movement has spread across the country and the world.

While the "Tea Party" still rebels in favor of the greedy and decadent 1%, more and more people are coming to their senses! Keep it up!
Fallout, Jerry; Fat Zap; Hyperman; Pimple Faced Teen; Spacebot 4000
#144 Side Effects May Include Gender Changes... Side Effects May Include Gender Changes... WHAT THE HECK?! Why are they at home again? And why has Jerry turned into a woman?

Let's find out on Monday; next up is a What If that I think I'll do after a good night of sleep.

BTW it's fun to finally draw Spacebot in his original appearance again :).
Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#143 The Laws Of Snorebotics The Laws Of Snorebotics Well, that last conclusion depends on how time travel works. In "Back to the Future," Jerry would now start to grow more and more transparent. In the EBC universe, though, the effects of the time travel have already happened in the very past where our heroes traveled to. Or have they? 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#142 Truth Or Dare Truth Or Dare What does Jerry think? That Spacebot is out of his electronic mind? Of course he wouldn't tell Monty the truth about their family relationship. We're approaching the Big Fight in the Colosseum, so stay tuned during the next few days! 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#141 Heavy Metal Attack! Heavy Metal Attack! I guess all of this stuff wouldn't help Jerry and Monty, so let's hope Spacebot will be able to save them! Fallout, Jerry; Roman Prison Guard
#139 Should We Stay Or Should We Go? Should We Stay Or Should We Go? Well, at least it can't get worse now. Or can it? Let's find out on Monday! 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Fallout, Jerry; Roman Prison Guard; Spacebot 4000
#138 Caesar's Back, Baby! Caesar's Back, Baby! Historically, "Redde quae sunt Caesaris Caesari" is not a quote by Caesar himself. It's from the Bible: when some citizens asked Jesus whether they should pay their taxes to the Roman empire, he answered: "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."

Sorry, we're late -- this was supposed to be Wednesday's comic. But two more will follow during the day so that we'll be back in line again.
80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#136 Asking For The Way Asking For The Way I'm not sure Caesar likes it when someone uses his laurel wreath! 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#134 Not So Easy Without GPS Not So Easy Without GPS Monty is starting to annoy Jerry with the accounts of his questionable school career, as this is already the second such remark after EBC #116.

This is the THIRD strip I've posted today, so we're back in line for tomorrow's What If.

On Saturday, I'll be participating in a 24-hour-comic contest. You cannot participate any more as the number of participants is limited, but you may come say hi. Check the news post below or the news archive for details.
80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#132 Panem Or Circenses? Panem Or Circenses? "Panem et circenses," literally "bread and games," was what the Roman emperors thought would keep ordinary people going. 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Boldface, Terry; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#131 Knights Of The Roman Republic Knights Of The Roman Republic Well, one of them is the father, and the other is the son, so much is true. 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#129 Documentation Or Shenanigans? Documentation Or Shenanigans? Hey, wait... Dr. Mysterious's problem is not that they show the camera around, but he's worried about the battery. 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry
#127 So Much Older Than Old McDonald's So Much Older Than Old McDonald's It's true: in Ancient Rome, there was something like beef burgers, and there was takeaway food. 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Pimple Faced Roman Teen; Spacebot 4000
#126 All Dreams Lead To Rome All Dreams Lead To Rome Something as surreal as time travel somehow must seem like a dream. See you tomorrow. Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry
#124 Fear Of The Dark Fear Of The Dark I understand Jerry's problem very well: as a guy from a big city, I can't stand sleeping in absolute silence and darkness in the countryside -- whenever I wake up, I need to find even the faintest source of light to make sure I haven't gone blind. Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#123 Applied Anthropology Applied Anthropology I kind of like the way the oil lamp's light and shadows turned out. Nothing else to report for now. See you tomorow. Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#121 History Changes, But People Don't History Changes, But People Don't While Jerry is quite interested in Claudia, and the doctor makes a valid point, she seems to be much more fascinated by Spacebot whom she mistakes to be a real gladiator.

Marcus Iunius Brutus was Caesar's adopted son, but ten years after the events in this comic, the ungrateful brat was part of the conspiracy to kill Caesar.
Claudia; Dr. Mysterious; Roman Farmer
#120 La B.D. invitée La B.D. invitée "La B.D. invitée," short for "la bande dessinée invitée," is French for "Guest Strip." It's another guest strip by my son because the original author for the current guest strip let me down -- but hey, I suppose this one's much better! Guest Jerry Fallout; Guest Spacebot 4000
#119 The Secret Of My Success The Secret Of My Success "Beloved dictator" sounds a bit weird by today's standards. But back in the days of the Roman Republic, "dictator" was an official job title -- a single tribune could be elected as a dictator in hard times such as war, and he was allowed to overrule the senate for a limited amount of time. This played a certain role during the transition from Republic to Empire.

Jerry seems to like Claudia... but you'll only get to see her on Monday.

Before that, you'll get another guest strip today.
Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Roman Farmer
#118 What's Cooking? What's Cooking? When I was about eleven years old, I watched "Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom" for the first time at my aunt's place. She said "Watch out, their cooking style is a bit different from mine" before the scene with eye soup and ape brains was on. Chef; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry
#116 Like Father, Like Son? Like Father, Like Son? I'm not sure Monty told Jerry the full truth about his Latin lessons when Jerry went to school. The farmer seems to be much more friendly now that Doctor Mysterious is speaking Latin with him. Maybe our friends can even get a decent meal and a place to sleep for the night. 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Roman Farmer
#114 Reading English, Hearing Latin Reading English, Hearing Latin Oh dear, what now? Hope Terry and the Doctor will be back soon! We'll see on Monday, tomorrow is "What If" day. 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Fallout, Jerry; Roman Farmer; Spacebot 4000
#113 Here Comes The Sun Here Comes The Sun So they finally found better weather. But is it really a good idea to leave Jerry, Spacebot, and Monty alone, after everything that happened during their stay in 1985? Let's find out in the next strip... Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#109 In Thunder, Lightning, And In Rain In Thunder, Lightning, And In Rain Based on events taking place today: Right after work, we took a nice walk. It started in beautiful sunshine and ended in a superheavy thunderstorm. Fallout, Jerry
#108 Caesar, Here We Come Caesar, Here We Come So they're finally going to Ancient Rome. More than two thousand years ago, there's no forest at this place. And it's raining heavily. Fallout, Jerry
#106 All It Takes To Be A Nerd?! All It Takes To Be A Nerd?! How Spacebot knows? Well, a Robot is even more of a nerd than a seven-year-old boy with glasses. Boldface, Terry; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#105 What If Jerry And Spacebot Were Snobbles? What If Jerry And Spacebot Were Snobbles? Friday's comic, finally online on Sunday (sorry!).

If you're not sure what a snobble is, check out the original character description. Tomorrow, our regular story arc continues.
Snobby Fallout; Space Snobot 4000
#104 Let's Finally Talk About It Let's Finally Talk About It Although it was about time that they started to discuss these topics, it's heading into a dangerous direction. Let's see on Monday how this goes on. Tomorrow, we'll have a What If strip. 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Boldface, Terry; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#103 ...Do As The Romans Do ...Do As The Romans Do Really whooooah! The appearance generator is yet another great invention by Dr. Mysterious. It makes the time machine look like a Roman carriage, the humans like Roman citizens, and Spacebot like a gladiator in shiny armor.

By the way, the shirts that we won't be seeing in a while read as follows: Jerry -- "iTime," Spacebot "Droid Time," Monty -- "C-64 Time."
80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#102 When In Rome... When In Rome... The time travel adventure that started in EBC #61 goes on: After visiting the year 1985, our friends are going back to Ancient Rome.

As you can see, I'm having fun with color lately, especially since the huge anniversary strip, and I think at least this second time travel story arc will be completely in color.

On a totally unrelated note, you should read "Catwoman: When In Rome" by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale (DC Comics) -- it's worth it. And while you're at it, also read "Batman: The Long Halloween" and "Batman: Dark Victory" by the same writer/artist -- they're all part of the same long story arc.
Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry
#101 [Untitled] [Untitled] A silly re-enactment of EBC #1, starring: Spacebot 4000 as Doodle #1, Jerry Fallout as Doodle #2 (from Doodle Jump), Fat Zap as The Poodle, and Pimple Faced Teen as The Noodle. Fallout, Jerry; Fat Zap; Pimple Faced Teen; Spacebot 4000
#100 100 Characters From 100 Comics 100 Characters From 100 Comics All of the characters celebrating EBC #100 in the Metrotopia Amphitheater are from the Other Stuff section. The long description, detailing each character, will follow tomorrow night because this thing already took the whole weekend to draw.

Update -- here's the description/character list I promised (it took a day longer because the Other Stuff items didn't have individual URLs before):

Above/behind the arena, we can see Jerry Fallout as Superman and Spacebot 4000 as Batman from the Energy Brain League, followed by the real Batman and the real Superman (in their original colors this time; they can also be found here and even here).

In the top row of the arena itself, from left to right: Spider-Man, Dr. Mankid and his assistant, Zombie Punk, Pimple Faced Teen as Green Lantern and Terry Boldface as Flash, Hulk: White, Monty and Gilbert Fallout.

2nd row of the arena (from top, left to right): Tux and Snowball from Supertux, Toaster Dragon, Mortimer Watson and his butler Henry, Cthulhu, the unmarried non-couple, and the Fantastic Four (Reed Richards, Susan Storm-Richards, Johnny Storm R.I.P., Ben Grimm). Mr. Fantastic is snatching popcorn from a guy in the row in front of him...

3rd row: The video game characters Lara Croft, Mario (holding his plumber thing under her nose!), Pac-Man, Link, Pinky the Ghost (tickled by Link), Donkey Kong, and Sonic the Hedgehog. The rest of the row is occupied by the TOS vs. TNG guys: Undecided guy, TOS guy (doesn't he look like Ned Flanders?), Voyager guy, and TNG guy.

4th row: Pirate Santa, Police Chief Train (also in EBC#27 and #28), the Dancing Rabbitz, the Rock Band (drummer, guitar player, singer), and news anchor Pran Salan dressed as James Bond. Why the heck is the drummer slapping the Willy Millowitsch rabbit?

5th row: Jack Thompson, Leon Kersken, Mr. Sushi (wondering where Kasper the Clown is), Diver and Gourmet Crocodile, the Mouth Guy (receiving cereals using his special method), the Nerd who wants to be a hero, Yoshi, Sascha Kersken, Math Nerd and Cookie Monster.

6th row: Snobble-headed man, or snobble dressed as a man, Giovanni/Pizza Man, Sid, Manny, and Diego from Ice Age (with the ice-cream from "Ice Age 4: Straciatella"), Mr. Iceblock from Supertux (see EBC #25), and the International Guys (Hiroshi Yamamoto from Japan, John Jackson from the United States, Sir Edward Overlord III from the United Kingdom, Jean-Luc Delacour from France, and Hermann von Strotz from Germany).

7th row: Centboy and Dollarman, Doodle and "Roddenberry" from Doodle Jump, two Snobbles (Dr. Snobble and Dobedobedo Snobble), two strange Eye Guys, the Falling Guy, the Fit Body Man, the stick figure, and another strange guy.

#98 Hyperman vs. Squidking III Hyperman vs. Squidking III This turned out better than expected: The poor falling guy is saved, the car has not damaged anything, and Squidking is in custody in the famous Metrotopia Aqua Zoo.

Tomorrow, we'll have another "Songs Illustrated," and on Friday, there'll be EBC #100!
Fallout, Jerry; Guy Captured by Squidking; Hyperman; Spacebot 4000; Squidking
#92 Sidekickery Sidekickery Sidekicks... in the DC Universe, everyone and their dogs have them. Over in the Marvel Universe, there's only Cap & Bucky. Reportedly, Stan Lee just hates sidekicks, and Captain America was invented long before he joined the company.

This is an out-of-continuity story that happened before the time travel adventure.
Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#91 The Escape The Escape So, good bye, 1985, and hello, Roman Empire. Monty is with them now, and they'll have to explain one thing or another to him. Except for that one thing that could affect his -- and especially Jerry's -- future, of course.

So this is the conclusion of a longer story arc. We'll definitely see what they're going to do next. But the anniversary strip #100 is near, so I think there'll be some other suprises for you before that one.
80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Police Officer; Spacebot 4000
#89 Up, Up, And Away! Up, Up, And Away! The description is within the strip this time, so there's no need for much text here. Tomorrow, we've got a guest strip. 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Cloud #3; Fallout, Jerry; Police Officer; Spacebot 4000
#87 It's About Time To Leave! It's About Time To Leave! Let's face it: 1985 was fun while it lasted, but with the Metrotopia Police Department involved, they should finally move on.

Tomorrow, we've got "Songs Illustrated," and on Thursday, you'll be able to witness their dramatic escape...
Beansworth, Harry; Boldface, Terry; Dr. Mysterious; Police Officer; Spacebot 4000
#86 To Boldly D'oh... To Boldly D'oh... This doesn't look like it's going to end well... 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000; Yet Another Pimple Faced Teen
#84 Some Of Them Are Nerds, Too Some Of Them Are Nerds, Too Just can't wait for Jerry's answer. 80s Game Store Guy; 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000; Yet Another Pimple Faced Teen
#83 Family Meeting Family Meeting So the guy who looks like Jerry is... Jerry's dad! (Hadn't you already guessed?). Poor Jerry -- no NES for him right now. 80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Fallout, Jerry; Pimple Faced Teen's Mom; Spacebot 4000
#81 Off To 8-Bit Wonderland Off To 8-Bit Wonderland Do you have kind of a déja-vu here? Check out EBC #51.

Metal Guy is right, of course: The first Legend Of Zelda game was only introduced a year later, in 1986. Let's see tomorrow what they will find in Ms. Pacman's then.
Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#79 Best. Deal. Ever? Best. Deal. Ever? Carbon Dude and Metal Guy are at The Batcave, their favorite comic book store in 2011. At first it seems they have payment issues, but... the fun fact here is that both Jerry and the Comic Book Salesman think they have made a brilliant deal and fooled the other party.

We're going to have a guest strip tomorrow, and on Monday we'll see what's up at the Video Game Store in 1985.
Comic Book Salesman in 1985; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#78 I Shall Wear The Future I Shall Wear The Future Jerry seems to be far more clever or at least experienced than some people -- or robots -- give him credit for.

BTW: I'm using a font here instead of hand-lettering. I intended to do so for a while but couldn't find a suitable one. I'm not even sure whether this one is ideal. What do you think?
Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#76 Independence Day 1985 Independence Day 1985 Jerry and Spacebot are celebrating today, and they're going to visit the comic book store the next day. In the real world, though, tomorrow will be "Songs Illustrated" again, and we will find out the day after what they're up to.

As for the 'tallica poster on the wall: On Saturday, we went to the BIG 4 show in Gelsenkirchen, and it *rocked*. In three months of stage absence, Metallica had time to revamp their setlist from the ground up -- so for the first time in a couple of years, the show did not end with "Seek and Destroy" (which was played as the fourth song) but with "Creeping Death," and they opened with "Hit The Lights," followed by "Master of Puppets."

Happy Fourth of July to our American readers, and a nice week to the rest of us.
Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#75 What If RM01 Were Jerry Fallout's Best Friend? What If RM01 Were Jerry Fallout's Best Friend? Their relationship seems to be a little different from the one between Jerry and his original best friend, Spacebot 4000, because RM01 is an even greater prankster than Jerry.

The continuity of our current story arc will resume on Monday. I want as many strips ending with a 5 as possible to be "What If" comics.
Fallout, Jerry; RM01
#74 Self-Service 1985 Self-Service 1985 So, Jerry and Spacebot share a room -- it's just like home! Fallout, Jerry; Receptionist at the "Cozy Sleep Motel"; Spacebot 4000
#73 Checking In Checking In Well, "Uncanny X-Men" #194 was published in June 1985, and "two issues later" does not even exist on July 3. So of course, Spacebot 4000 needs to stop his friend before he goes on like that. Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Receptionist at the "Cozy Sleep Motel"; Spacebot 4000
#72 Late's Motel Late's Motel Our friends are looking for a motel. But for some reason, this is not the one. Boldface, Terry; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#71 There's A Time For Everything There's A Time For Everything ... but obviously, the time for Mobile Internet is not the year 1985. Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#69 Back to the Back to the Future Back to the Back to the Future "Back to the Future," one of my (and many other people's) favorite movies, premiered on July 3, 1985. What better date could our friends from the present have chosen to visit the 1980's?

There will be a guest strip tomorrow, so let's see on Monday what happens next (or happened next, almost 26 years ago).
80s Moviegoer who looks like Jerry; Boldface, Terry; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Female 80s Moviegoer; Male 80s Moviegoer; Spacebot 4000
#67 Where do we want to go? Where do we want to go? So, everyone is full and happy. Now they need to decide where to go. The 1980s may not be the most interesting option, but it feels like the most save one. So, even though Dr. Mysterious doesn't tell us his preference (he did so in #62), I guess they will try the eighties first, and the other options later. Boldface, Terry; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#65 At the Drive-In At the Drive-In They have the power of a time machine, but all they've done by now is use it as an ordinary car to go to Burger Bar.

There will be a little interruption in this story arc as Monday's comic will be "Songs Illustrated."
Boldface, Terry; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Pimple Faced Teen; Spacebot 4000
#64 First Things First First Things First Every man has his priorities. And it can't always be science. For some people, it's the taste of a good, old Triple Cheeseburger from Burger Bar (R). Boldface, Terry; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#63 Spacebot 4000 Secret Origins? Spacebot 4000 Secret Origins? Wait... Dad? So Dr. Mysterious built Spacebot 4000. And that's why he knows Jerry? Or is there even more to it? Let's find out tomorrow. Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#62 For Science Only For Science Only Carbon Dude and Metal Guy are at Dr. Mysterious's lab. Jerry can't wait to see the time machine. He even pretends that they have to go to the comic book store soon, although he know's it's already closed for today. Boldface, Terry; Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#61 Into the Realm of the (Dr.) Mysterious Into the Realm of the (Dr.) Mysterious Jerry and Spacebot have arrived at Dr. Mysterious's science lab. He's the guy who has claimed to have built a time machine back in EBC #56. And we also learn more about the pizza delivery from #57.

The sign reads: "Dr. Mysterious Secret Lab. Trespassers hereby agree to take part in experiments with an unpredictable outcome."
Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#57 Pizza Delivery Pizza Delivery Jerry has a new job as a pizza delivery boy, and his first (or only?) customer is Spacebot 4000. Or was the pizza for someone else originally? We may find out in one of the next issues. Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#56 Acebook Acebook Everybody uses social networks nowadays, even Jerry Fallout and Spacebot 4000. And now Jerry is invited by the mysterious Dr. Mysterious who claims to have invented a time machine. To be continued some time in the future. Dr. Mysterious; Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#52 Inside Lady Zelda's Inside Lady Zelda's Take a look at the local video game store, "Lady Zelda's." Metal Guy and Carbon Dude can be seen in the background, after their previous visit they seem to like the store. Fallout, Jerry; Fat Zap; Pimple Faced Teen; Spacebot 4000
#51 To Be Continued (No More), Part 3 To Be Continued (No More), Part 3 After a long walk through the city, Jerry and Spacebot finally arrive at the Lady's. Would you have guessed that this Lady is a video game store? Well, what did you think?! Fallout, Jerry; Spacebot 4000
#50 Happy 50th Issue! Happy 50th Issue! Finally, a (small) anniversary: EBC #50! So everyone is here who has been featured in this webcomic from #1 through #49. Most of them are even in order of appearance, just a few have been put where they seemed to fit best. The Weather Guys, of course (also featuring in yesterday's comic), are on top of the whole picture, in the sky. And they're all celebrating and having fun.

All guest strip characters have been drawn by Leon because he did these guest strips in the first place. That's why some characters are there more than once (as you may have seen, they also appear twice in the character list, once as "$characterName" and once as "Guest $characterName." And, of course, those who have more than one identity appear twice (such as Hyperman/Clyde Barker or RM01/Chief RM01).

Have fun, and I'll see you on Monday with the conclusion of the "To Be Continued" story arc from comics #47 and #48.
